The Golden Hour Quartet plays swing music inspired by the great jazz artists of the 1930's and 40's, such as Don Byas, Slam Stewart, Johnny Guarnieri, Lester Young, et. al.
The instrumentation/personnel of the band is flexible -- we have appeared as a quartet, quintet (adding another horn or guitar), and septet (adding guitar, cornet, and trombone).
Golden Hour Quartet is:
Lauryn Gould, tenor sax & vocals
Floyd Domino, piano
Ryan Gould, string bass
Jason Baczynski, drums
*Live album below features Kris Tokarski on piano and JD Pendley on guitar*
This quartet interprets the music of the great Sidney Bechet (and others) with lighthearted effervescence and dedication to the spirit with which it was originally presented. The band draws inspiration from pop, jazz, folk, blues, and spirituals from the 1920's-30's (and beyond) and presents the music with both reverence and freshness.
The Moaners are:
David Jellema, clarinet
Lauryn Gould, soprano sax
JD Pendley, guitar
Ryan Gould, string bass
Some words from listeners:
"Best moaning in Texas, without a doubt."
"They are talented, fun, and lively!"
"What a great band! They play so well together and have fun. What could be better!"

Championing the sound of be-bop pioneer and all-time great guitarist, Charlie Christian, is Austin, Texas’ aptly named “The Charlie Christians.”
Born out of the Monday night swing music scene of recent years at the Sahara Lounge is this group who pays homage to, but without strictly replicating, the sound of the famous late 30s - early 40s Benny Goodman Sextet which featured Christian on guitar, as well as Lionel Hampton on vibes. Utilizing two electric guitars (JD Pendley and Lindsay Greene), flute and saxophone (Lauryn Gould), string bass (Joshua Hoag), and drum set (Jason Baczynski), they adopt many iconic moments contained in the sextet’s original recordings, often harmonizing riffs and solos that showcase the genius that was Charlie Christian as well as the unique swing styles of this current “C.C.’s” lineup. Their music is inventive, accessible, in the pocket, and great for dancing and listening.
Keep an eye out for a full-length record out later this year!
